Fixed Beam Gantry Type Milling Machine

The GFA-2550R is a fixed-beam, moving-table gantry machining center built for large and heavy workpieces. It has a 2000 × 5000 mm worktable with a 22-ton load capacity, X/Y/Z travels of 5200 / 2700 / 2500 mm, and a BT50 spindle with direct-connected + ZF gearbox drive. The machine is equipped with a SIEMENS 828D CNC system and is designed for milling, boring, drilling, rigid tapping, reaming and countersinking operations.

Product Introduction

Product Details

The GFA-2550R uses a fixed gantry frame and moving worktable, giving the machine a long working area while keeping the main gantry structure stationary. The main castings are made from high-strength cast iron, with reinforcing ribs designed through finite element analysis and heat treatment applied to reduce residual stress. For buyers looking for a fixed beam gantry type milling machine for large components, this layout provides a direct combination of long X-axis travel and a 22-ton worktable capacity.

The spindle assembly uses a 400 × 400 mm enclosed square ram. A servo motor drives the ZF gear transmission directly, while the gearbox connects to the spindle through a high-torque coupling. The spindle and gearbox have a separate oil-cooling system to remove generated heat and reduce thermal deformation around the milling head.

The X and Y axes use heavy-duty roller linear guideways, while the Z axis uses a hardened box-way structure with plastic-coated contact surfaces. X/Y/Z axes are driven by large-lead precision ball screws through servo motors and direct-connected reducers. A nitrogen-cylinder balancing system is fitted to the Z axis to offset the ram's weight and reduce unnecessary load on the ball screw.

Product Features

01/

400 × 400 mm Square Ram

The ram uses a fully enclosed square structure rather than a smaller cylindrical or compact ram design. Its size is 400 × 400 mm, with the transmission and spindle arrangement positioned at the top of the ram.

02/

ZF Gearbox for High-Torque Machining

The spindle drive combines direct connection with a ZF gearbox. The specified spindle torque reaches 1298 N·m rated and 1672 N·m maximum, making the configuration suitable for machining workpieces where torque is more important than very high spindle speed.

03/

Box Guideway on the Z Axis

The Z axis uses a hardened box-way structure. The contact surfaces are treated with plastic coating, providing a guideway arrangement intended for maintaining rigidity when the ram extends during cutting.

04/

Siemens 828D Control

The machine uses the SIEMENS 828D CNC system. The system supports functions including linear, circular and helical interpolation, high-speed rigid tapping, NURBS interpolation, polar interpolation, tool management, temperature compensation and measurement-system error compensation.

05/

Automatic Lubrication and Chip Removal

A centralized automatic lubrication system supplies the axis guideways, ball screws, gearbox and other moving components. Spiral chip conveyors on both sides transfer chips to a front chain-type conveyor and then into the chip cart.

Product Advantages

For this model, the working envelope is one of the main practical considerations. The 5200 mm X-axis travel and 5000 mm table length give the machine enough longitudinal movement for long components, while the 22-ton table capacity allows heavier parts to be loaded without moving them to a separate setup.

The spindle arrangement is also different from a high-speed machining configuration. The 20–4500 rpm speed range is paired with a ZF gearbox and up to 1672 N·m maximum torque. This makes the GFA-2550R more suitable for large workpieces and machining operations where stable torque output is needed.

Another practical point is the combination of linear guideways on X/Y and a box way on Z. The machine therefore does not use the same guideway structure on all three axes. The Z-axis arrangement is specifically intended to maintain support when the 400 × 400 mm ram extends during machining.

The machine can also be supplied with additional machining equipment such as automatic universal milling heads, extension milling heads, right-angle milling heads, a 180T vertical/horizontal tool magazine, 3 MPa spindle-center coolant, Renishaw laser interferometer and probe, and a wireless electronic handwheel.

After-Sales Service

Installation and Commissioning

Before delivery, the customer needs to prepare the machine foundation according to the manufacturer's foundation drawing. The customer's side is responsible for foundation work, unloading, lifting and positioning. The manufacturer provides on-site inspection, installation, commissioning and acceptance support after the machine arrives.

For this machine, the documented installation requirements include a 0.6–0.8 MPa compressed-air supply, clean and dry air, suitable electrical grounding, and sufficient lifting equipment. The maximum lifting component is approximately 30 tons, so the workshop lifting arrangement needs to be checked before shipment.

Acceptance

The machine goes through pre-acceptance at the manufacturer's facility and final acceptance at the customer's installation site. Final acceptance mainly checks machining accuracy according to the agreed technical contract and inspection standards.

Operator Training

After installation and commissioning, training is provided at the customer's factory. The documented training covers machine operation and routine maintenance.

Warranty and Technical Support

The warranty period is 12 months from final acceptance. During the warranty period, manufacturing or design-related failures under normal operating conditions are covered according to the technical agreement. After the warranty period, online technical support and guidance remain available, while spare parts can continue to be supplied.
