The core structure of a CNC gantry machining center is a portal frame consisting of two columns and a top beam. A central crossbeam connects the two columns, forming a high-rigidity, high-stability machining platform. Based on the movement of the crossbeam and worktable, gantry machining centers can be classified into fixed-beam, moving-beam, moving-column, overhead crane (bridge) type, and composite types. Among these, the moving-column type CNC gantry milling machine with a moving gantry frame features fixed mass of moving parts, relatively unlimited workpiece weight, and a small footprint. The fixed-beam structure uses a vertically perpendicular orthogonal linear guideway.
To improve rigidity, the structural design employs an integrated structure, a box-in-box structure, a large-section square slide block, a four-rail enclosed guideway structure, a stepped guideway, and various reinforcing structures. High stability is achieved through high-precision machining and one-time clamping and positioning processes on key mating surfaces, guideway attachment surfaces, and connecting reference surfaces, combined with gantry guideway grinding technology.
To ensure stability, the drive system employs dual-motor, dual-screw drive for X/Y/Z linear axes, screw pre-tensioning, full closed-loop control, center-of-gravity drive, and backlash-eliminating technology using precision gear and rack transmission. For the moving-beam gantry milling machine, the beam lifting and feed utilizes bilateral dragging, bilateral detection, and the synchronous axis function of the machine tool control system to achieve synchronous beam lifting and lowering. Optional international mainstream CNC systems such as Siemens, FANUC, and Heidenhain are available, and it features intelligent functions such as adaptive cutting, tool wear detection, and online monitoring.
The milling head offers rich functionality. The dual-swivel universal milling head enables five-axis linkage machining, and the 45-degree milling head easily allows for vertical/horizontal conversion. The five-axis linkage heavy-duty CNC gantry machining center is equipped with a high-performance AC swivel head, achieving a positioning accuracy of 0.003 mm and increasing the spindle speed to 12,000 rpm. The five-axis linkage function supports multi-face machining of complex parts, reducing changeover times and machining cycles.
