The moving column gantry machining center is a high-precision CNC machine tool integrating multiple processes. It achieves machining of large workpieces through a moving column structure and is suitable for various processes such as milling, drilling, boring, and tapping. Its core advantages lie in its high-rigidity frame and multi-axis linkage capability, covering the complex parts machining needs of mold manufacturing, aerospace, and energy equipment industries.
The machine consists of a frame structure comprising a bed, column, crossbeam, slide, and worktable. The column moves laterally along the bed guide rails (X-axis), the slide drives the spindle head to move longitudinally on the column (Y-axis), and the spindle head achieves vertical feed (Z-axis). The three-axis linkage, combined with an optional fourth-axis rotary worktable, can complete the machining of spatial curved surfaces. The guideway system uses heavy-duty roller linear guides from brands such as THK and HIWIN. The X/Y axes are equipped with two 55mm guideways as standard, and the Z-axis is equipped with a T-type hardened guideway as standard or an optional four-linear guideway, ensuring motion accuracy under high loads.
The worktable width ranges from 3000-5000mm, and the length extends to 20000mm, accommodating workpieces of various sizes. The X-axis travel reaches 20500mm, the Y-axis travel 6800mm, and the Z-axis travel 1500mm, creating an ultra-large machining space. The spindle uses a BT50 tool holder, compatible with face milling cutters with diameters of 200mm and above, and operates at speeds of 8000-12000rpm for efficient cutting. The CNC system supports mainstream brands such as Siemens and FANUC, enabling multi-axis synchronous motion control with an accuracy of ±0.01mm through programming.
The equipment comes standard with milling functionality, expandable to five-axis machining via optional accessories: an accessory milling head for vertical surface machining, a gear head for high-torque cutting, a central water outlet to solve chip removal problems in deep holes, and a rotary table and fourth axis to support complex curved surface machining. For example, in wind turbine gearbox machining, boring, end milling, and thread tapping of the gearbox body can be completed in a single operation, reducing positioning errors caused by multiple clamping operations. The gantry width is available in four settings, ranging from 4200 to 6200 mm, to match different span requirements.
Compared to traditional gantry structures, the moving column design reduces inertial errors caused by table movement, making it more suitable for machining heavy workpieces. The heavy-duty guide rail and lead screw system can withstand workpiece pressure up to 50 tons, maintaining long-term stability. In the energy sector, this equipment is used to process piping sections for nuclear power pressure vessels; in the mold industry, it can complete the overall machining of automotive body panel molds. Optional automatic tool changer (ATC) and online inspection devices further enhance automated production efficiency.
