Gantry Type CNC
Product Details
The machine adopts an elevated bridge structure with a fixed worktable. Longitudinal saddles on the left and right beds support a box-in-box crossbeam, which moves along the X-axis together with the ram. The overhead gantry design delivers high rigidity and excellent vibration resistance. The crossbeam uses a symmetrical box-in-box structure that minimizes thermal deformation and maintains high machining accuracy. All axis movements occur above the worktable, which remains fixed - this ensures that varying workpiece weights do not affect cutting performance. Main components including the bed, worktable, left/right saddles, box-in-box crossbeam, transverse carriage, and milling ram are all cast from high-strength cast iron using resin-bonded sand molding, providing good vibration damping and thermal stability. The X and Y axes use Alpha gear rack drives with dual-gear anti-backlash reduction. Linear scales from Heidenhain are installed on the X, Y, and Z axes for full closed-loop control, ensuring synchronization of the dual drive motors on the X-axis. The Z axis uses a large-lead precision ballscrew with nitrogen cylinder counterbalance to offset the ram's self-weight. As a gantry type cnc machine, rapid traverse rates reach 30/30/20 m/min, combining long travel with high efficiency.

Fixed Table Design – Load Capacity Unaffected by Weight
All axis movements occur above the worktable, which remains fixed during machining. This means the weight of the workpiece does not affect the movement of the axes. Whether machining a 100kg aluminum part or an 8-ton steel component, the cutting performance remains consistent. The table load capacity is rated at 8000kg/m², suitable for heavy workpieces.
Box-in-Box Symmetrical Crossbeam
The crossbeam uses a symmetrical box-in-box structure - an outer box with the ram nested inside, reinforced with internal ribs. Because the spindle centerline is positioned at the geometric center of the crossbeam and ram, thermal expansion from shop floor temperature changes causes minimal displacement of the spindle centerline, maintaining machining accuracy under varying ambient conditions.
Dual-Gear Anti-Backlash Rack Drive
X and Y axes use dual-gear anti-backlash reduction drives with Alpha gear racks. Each saddle mounts two planetary reducers, each with a hardened and ground output gear - both gears mesh with the same rack. The two gears are offset by half a tooth pitch during installation, with preload applied to eliminate backlash. No lost motion during reversal, no vibration or tool deflection during milling due to clearance.
Z-Axis Nitrogen Counterbalance
The Z axis uses nitrogen cylinder counterbalance technology - nitrogen cylinders produce upward force to offset the ram and spindle head's self-weight. The ballscrew only handles dynamic loads during acceleration/deceleration, while static loads are carried by the nitrogen cylinders. Reduced no-load torque means less screw wear and better long-term accuracy retention.
4 Guideways on All Axes
X, Y, and Z axes each feature 4 heavy-duty 55mm roller guideways. The X-axis has two on each side of the bed, the Y-axis has four evenly spaced on the crossbeam, and the Z-axis has one on each face of the ram. Four guideways provide wider load distribution, reduced individual slider loading, and smoother motion.
Spindle HSK-A100 + 10000rpm
HSK-A100 tool holder features dual-face contact for stable clamping force at high speeds, suitable for 10000rpm operation. Rated spindle power is 54kW with torque of 200/240N.m.
Linear Scale Full Closed-Loop Control
Heidenhain linear scales are installed on the X-axis (inner sides of left/right beds), Y-axis (crossbeam), and Z-axis (ram). Position signals feed back directly to the CNC system, monitoring actual displacement of each axis in real time. Full closed-loop control compensates for thermal expansion and mechanical backlash of racks and ballscrews - particularly important for the 8500mm X-axis travel where thermal growth of the rack can otherwise introduce positioning errors. The system also uses the X-axis linear scales to ensure synchronization of the dual drive motors, preventing skewing of the gantry during long-travel moves.
Installation & Commissioning Notes
Before the machine arrives, the customer must complete foundation work and secondary grouting per the foundation drawings provided by the manufacturer. The customer is responsible for unloading, lifting, and positioning the machine. Before the commissioning engineers arrive, the customer must complete power and air supply connections but must not power on or supply air in advance. Auxiliary supplies such as coolant, hydraulic oil, guideway oil, and grease must be provided by the customer. The manufacturer provides on-site inspection, installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing at no charge, with necessary cooperation from the customer.

Applications
- Aerospace Aluminum Panels & Stringers: Aircraft fuselage panels, wing panels, and stringers often exceed 6 meters in length with 2-3 meter widths. The 3000×8000mm table accommodates full-length panels without sectional machining. As a gantry type cnc machine, one setup handles both internal and external profiles, pocketing, and lightening holes. The A-axis ±110° reaches edge chamfers and seal grooves without secondary angle adjustments. The 8500mm X-axis travel covers full panel length, and Heidenhain linear scale full closed-loop control ensures positioning accuracy does not degrade over long travel.
- Large Automotive Panel Molds: Side panels, roof panels, door panels, and other stamping dies often exceed 3×5 meters in size. 5-axis simultaneous operation allows side-edge cutting instead of ball-nose point cutting, improving surface quality. 1500mm Z-axis travel plus ±110° A-axis swivel handles deep cavities and near-vertical sidewalls.

- Wind Turbine Blade Molds & Tooling: Blade molds are long and narrow - often exceeding 8 meters in length - and the 3000×8000mm table is a perfect fit. Mold surfaces are complex and require 5-axis contour milling. This gantry type cnc configuration with long X-axis travel and 5-axis capability is particularly well-suited for long, curved workpieces like wind turbine blade molds.
- Rail Transit Large Components: High-speed rail underframes, bogie frames, and other welded structures 6-8 meters in length require milling of mounting surfaces and drilling. The 8500mm X-axis travel covers full workpiece length, completing all operations in a single setup. The overhead gantry design ensures high rigidity and vibration resistance for heavy cuts on welded structures with uneven stock removal.

FAQ
1. What is the advantage of fixed table design for heavy workpieces?
All axis movements occur above the worktable, which remains fixed. The weight of the workpiece does not affect the movement of the X, Y, or Z axes. Whether machining a light aluminum part or an 8-ton steel component, the friction, inertia, and drive loads on the axes remain the same. This provides consistent cutting performance regardless of workpiece weight - a key benefit for job shops handling varied part sizes.
2. What are the customer's responsibilities for installation?
The customer is responsible for foundation work (per the manufacturer's drawings) with concrete curing for at least 28 days before the machine arrives. Upon delivery, the customer handles unloading, lifting, and positioning the machine. Before the commissioning engineers arrive, the customer must complete power (3-phase 380V/50Hz, 150kVA) and air (6-8 Kg/cm²) connections, but must not power on or supply air in advance. Auxiliary supplies such as coolant, hydraulic oil, guideway oil, and grease must be provided by the customer. The manufacturer provides on-site inspection, installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing at no charge.
3. How long does installation and commissioning take?
The machine is shipped in sections. Installation includes machine assembly, leveling, spliced guideway alignment, linear scale calibration, system commissioning, and test cutting. The entire process takes approximately 15-20 working days, depending on site conditions and machine length. After commissioning is complete, the customer signs off on an acceptance report - two copies are prepared, one for the customer's records and one for the manufacturer's equipment file.
4. What is the warranty policy?
Warranty period is 12 months from the date of final acceptance. During the warranty period, quality-related defects are repaired free of charge. Spare parts are supplied at cost after the warranty expires. The manufacturer provides lifetime technical support.
